begin _if_ (4)

the first iteration (1) of the begin _ if _ () series was first published at this same label 14 years ago. as a project i started loosely in 2005 in my last month living in madrid it saw the light back in 2009. some things take a lot of time. and there are no shortcuts to it. when i started back then there was a specific mood and energy in the way i wanted to arrange sound, field-recording based, with processed elements and electronic material embedded in a autobiographical way. the mini-disk was still the format of choice to record on the streets. the studio work consisted mostly of acoustic recordings. a fixed set of rules of hidden variables behind the work was constructed and is disclosed to the listener.

the years transformed both the shape and the commitment to set of rules of begin _ if _ (). the parameters got less strict interpreted as my physics studies gained distance. the sounds deriving from digital sources became more present. the field recordings mixed up heavily with set-recording fragments from film shoots i worked on. more distinct compositional elements were added to the toolset. the private, the business, the artistic and the political became washed out and melted into each other slowly. (4) became different in many ways. while finishing up (4) i was shooting "ohnmacht" in blanca, spain, a experimental feature film project i still work on and scored the john bock movie "Unheil". i spent a lot of time with my beloved grandpa and accompanied him in his last months on earth. talking about ones own work is difficult and a modern day necessity at the same time. this time i rather give these few (non) mystic gps coordinates (4) is been encountered in.
