esther bourdages, erik hove and thom gossage, particles
particles is the first recorded collaboration between musicians esther bourdages, erik hove and thom gossage. although they each come from contrasting musical practices, they find common ground through improvisation. the collaboration began with hove and bourdages jamming and playing shows as a duo. they developed a musical language exploring textures and noise, fed by the syncopated and granulated sounds in the experimental approach of turntablist bourdages (esther b.), and a research oriented, among other things, on the breath, evident in the subtle and varied of tones of hove's alto saxophone and flute. hove eventually invited gossage to join them, his percussion acting as a bridge between the winds and the turntables, and also as a punctuation mark, adding a rolling wave of diffuse yet precise rhythms crafted with his drum kit and a variety of objects. this release invites the listener to a non-linear musical excursion defined by a broad sound palette: the various instruments offering a wide range of sonic possibilities, breathing in their own space and meeting smoothly without ever reaching oversaturation.
